Farmers First

Delivering Impact to the Last Mile

Who We Are

Grey Matter is an India based agri-fintech startup, backed by One Acre Fund. We directly work with Indian farmers on a community commerce model - whereby farmers enrol for our service package based on their land size. Farmers enrolled for our services become eligible for quality agricultural inputs delivered at the village level, agri-advisory services to improve their yield and post-harvest support to get a better price for their harvest.

We started our operations from East Champaran in Bihar as One Acre Fund pilot project.  We have seen a ten-fold growth since inception and now operating as an independent company supported by One Acre Fund, a global organisation working with one million farmers across eight countries in Africa.

We are currently associated with 2,500+ farmers with 3,500+ acres under our service package. So far, we have delivered ₹ 80 million worth of services on credit.

Since 85% of the farmers in India are smallholder farmers, we work on an innovative community commerce model which helps us in optimising our logistics cost and creating high stickiness among farming communities. We believe that serving smallholder farmers in India presents one of the greatest opportunities for scale and impact in both agricultural and financial inclusion today.

Response to COVID-19

At a time of a global pandemic, we are drawing on our grassroots connect and tech expertise to respond to emerging farmer needs by putting them first.

Our three pronged response to the crisis:

1. App-Based Enrolments and Orders

2. Village Level Home Delivery of Inputs

3. Introduction of Zaid Season Service
